Snowshapes 1 by welder Snowshapes 1 by welder
A series of night photos in the snow done over the course of a week...not quite pure abstract, but more of an emphasis on shapes than subjects.

Damn that's pretty. Snow is wonderful! I tried to take a similar photo (not involving a stream/river) here a while ago when it snowed but it wasn't really what I wanted - this is just so much better! Fabulous light and shadow :D

I still think you did a good job. Really nice work
I would have done something with that puffy snow on the left. that looks really neet. Then again that is just me

Absolutely stunning image. Congratulations. It was the quality of your work that brought me to DA and you continue to impress me. Being from Quebec, I've attemped my share of snowscapes so I know how difficult they are. Nothing I've done compares with this.

Which lens did you use for this shot? I am in the market for a quality lens. How much post did you do on this shot? Your recent work is excellent btw. I have been a way for a while.

Lens was a Pentax 16-45 DA. I shoot raw and do post production with every image...this one beyond the typical level adjustments and so on I wanted to bring out the contrast in the shadows in the foreground without blowing out the white at the top, so I processed the image two separate ways and then blended the versions together to get the effect.

Thats a fav, I like all the snowshape shots but this one stands out more than the others, good work finding these almost abstract compositions.

Nice classy snow images. I would like some exposure information to go with it :-) not that i have any snow of course, but it would be nice to know...taken at night? Ambient (street) lighting? How long exposure and all that....just being nosey! :snowing:

All light sources were street lighting. Exposures were all around 30 seconds at f/22.

This is a wonderfull shot, I like the shapes in this one and I think the title is very fitting, the little bumps scattered around are very interesting to look at, i especially like the few in the water, and curves between the dark water and white snow contrast nicely and the general shape reminds me of a 'yin-yang' symol. There seems to be balance in this shot, some white and black in each side, always strugeling for control or equality, very amazing work.

a genious composition as usually Arthur; something so interesting out of something so simple that nearly everyone would overlook when thinking of a nice frame. Fortunately nearly but not everyone ;)

Facinating.. this should be chosen as a Daily Deviation!

Great concept and capture, it really warms me up even though it looks so chiled.

I think that I like this the most of this series. I think that it's the round shapes and softer shadows - I'm feeling soft now too. Beautiful shot

Stunning formations. Quite, or, very surreal. I'd like to have another view of the whole image, you know, where you can see nothing but the formations. Anywho, it's gorgeous, and I love the deep monochrome you picked aswell. Really fits in the mood.

Very.. classy.

Fantastic shadows, and I love the white snow contrasting with the dark water. The 2 snow covered rocks in the river are superb, and of course there's that nice natural s-curve.
At first I thought I preferred #2, but now I realise this one is my fav. :+fav:
