Every once in awhile I find a subject that demands me to put it at the center of the composition. Such was the case with this gazebo in Washoe Valley. Don't ask me why it's there...I guess someone thought that exhausted hikers would need a nice spot to rest and appreciate the view after making the journey up to this point.
I think this might be the most time I've ever put into trying to get a single photograph. I hiked up to here (a mile in the snow) on three separate occasions to try and take photos for a panorama, due to the fact that every time something just didn't come out right. Then I spent a few hours stitching and correcting in Photoshop.
The title was strange, because I thought about how this thing looked like a crown on the valley, but I was going to name it something different...until, by coincidence, the day I was working on the text layer I was also listening for the first time to Jets to Brazil, a band I had just come across thanks to a friend. And a song came on called Crown of the Valley. The last four lines of the song tied it together for me:
"The empire's melting like ice cream
On the altar of the sun
This skin we've stretched for centuries
It's faded, it's fraying, it's meaningless to me."
Amazing capture. You put a lot of effort into this shot it sounds like, and it pays off. I love the morning (evening?) light. Beautiful landscape with so many elements, but yet the shot still remains simple. Very nice job.
This is very surreal because you just don't expect to see gazebos out in the middle of nowhere. That's what makes this image so great. Nice job, Arthur. Two thumbs up, bro.
of course this photo comes from incredible talent....
what to say.. this is just beautiful..
this is nearly identical to the kind of place a dream could be called in real life..
amazing capture..
I love hearing the backstory behind certain photographs, and this one particularly touched me. Great composition, wonderful execution. And such dedication!
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!

Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
